Melanie Voegeli-Morris, age 65, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on December 24, 2022. Melanie was born in Denver, CO on July 9th,1957 to Paul T and Nancy Voegeli. She was raised in Lakewood, CO and was an active member of the Greek Orthodox communities in Denver and Northern Colorado.
Melanie attended Colorado State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and met her husband, Paul. She went on to get her Masters in Social Work (MSW) from University of Denver in 1980. She had a fulfilling career advocating for mental health, suicide prevention and grief support services in multiple organizations in the community. The last 21 years of her career were spent at Poudre School District as the Mental Health and Prevention Coordinator where she was instrumental in getting funding and resources for mental health and crisis management services for students and staff. Under her leadership, the mental health program became a significant resource for the school district. She led and mentored a team of colleagues whom she cared for like family. The Poudre School District Mental Health Team continues to grow and to honor her legacy in their skilled and compassionate care for students that Melanie modeled every day.
Melanie and Paul were married in 1981 and raised their family in Ft. Collins. Melanie was an extremely involved and proud mother. She took on the role of mom to many more than her own three children. She fully embraced her role as a grandmother (yiayia) to her three grandchildren and loved them with all her heart. Paul and Melanie had 41 years of marriage as partners and as best friends.
In February of 2022, Melanie was faced with the devastating diagnosis of Glioblastoma. She maintained a positive attitude and outlook throughout the struggles of the treatment and the cancer itself. She is survived by her husband, Paul Morris, children Thomas Morris, Timothy (Chelsey) Morris, Anna (Fotis) Bazakos, her grandchildren Josephine Melpomene Morris, Theodore David Morris and Michael Paul Bazakos and, her brother Paul (Dea) Voegeli.
May her memory be eternal.
