Melvin Joel Melchior, ""Mel"", age 65, died September 22, 2019 at his home in Denver, Colorado, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mel was born in Richardton, North Dakota, on June 23, 1954, to Frank and Clara Melchior, the fourth of seven children. He grew up on the family farm six miles southeast of Richardton, and attended St. Mary's and Richardton Public Schools. He participated in high school track, ranking on the state level; graduating in 1972.
After graduation, Mel moved to Dickinson, North Dakota, working the in the insurance field for several years before finding his niche in plumbing. In 1988, he moved his family to Denver to continue his career and earn his Master Plumber's license.
On Sundays, you could usually find Mel in front of his smoker, cooking brisket or ribs. He loved cooking for and spending time with family. Fishing was his passion, especially in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida. He was an avid Broncos fan. He could talk for hours quoting stats and scores, especially from the Elway years. When football season ended, he had fun spending Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR.
Mel is survived by his wife, Kit; children: Kristi Melchior (Bennie Washington), Topher Green (Mai), Fawn Pfeiffer (Luke), and Nicholas Green (Jessica); grandchildren: Troy, Devyni, DJ, Ally, Ariana, Adam, Liam and Catherine; brothers: James (Vickie), Wallace (Sue) and Frank (Jane); and sisters: Jane Pringle, Brenda Krabseth (Blake) and Nancy Phillips (Stewart). Mel was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019, at Horan & McConaty, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado. A Funeral Mass will be held immediately following visitation.
