Meredith Ann Sabin, age 83, died on May 29, 2020 in Denver, Colorado. Born in Loup City, Nebraska on June 11, 1936, Meredith is the daughter of the late Lavern and Ilah (Straight) Roblee.
Meredith lived most of her life in Nebraska until she moved to Des Moines, Iowa to be closer to her grandchildren. What she did not leave behind, however, was her love of her home state and of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Meredith loved to cook and bake. She once heard the story of a woman who prepared stone soup for her family and decided, as a joke, to make it for her own family. Unfortunately, her eldest child mistook the stone for a turtle shell which resulted in many tears. Members of the family are still laughing about that story. Meredith did not let a birthday go by without baking a cake for the occasion, often topped with a spinning candle, and accompanied by a rousing version of the Happy Birthday Polka. She also enjoyed crafting. Meredith has many hours of the Carol Duvall Show recorded on VHS tapes which she used for inspiration and instruction. Each project that she made was a labor of love.
But perhaps Meredith enjoyed nothing as much as having a conversation with a member of her family, a friend, or a person she had not previously met. This likely helped drive her success in her chosen career field of retail sales- from Avon to JCPenney.
Meredith married Thomas Sabin, the love of her life, on September 25, 1952. Together they had three children but sadly raised only two. Meredith was 53 years old when her ""Tommy"" died after thirty-seven years of marriage.
Meredith is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Sabin and her wife, Ellen Rabinowitz, of Denver; by her son, Jeffrey and his wife, Machelle, of Des Moines, Iowa; by her granddaughter Michaela Anania and her husband, Dominic, of Des Moines, Iowa and by her grandson, Thomas Sabin of Des Moines, Iowa. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Griess and her husband, Gale, of Lincoln, Nebraska; by her brother Wayne Roblee and his wife, Sally, of Aurora, Nebraska and by her brother Lannie Roblee of Curtis, Nebraska. Additionally, Meredith leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Meredith was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Sabin, their son, Timothy Thomas, and by her parents. Meredith was touched by the plight of abused and neglected animals. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to: Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies, 15350 West 72nd Avenue, Arvada, Colorado 80007, www.goldenrescue.com.
