Michael Edward Miller
July 30, 1969 – May 30, 2022
LAKEWOOD COLORADO – Michael Miller, 52, was born in Wichita, KS, the youngest of three children born to Cecilia Green and Michael E. Miller. He transitioned from this life at his home after a two-year battle with cancer, which he liked to say would be a draw, since he took the cancer down with him. He was incredibly proud of his family: wife of 15 years, Carla (Plonkey) Miller, son Desmond age 13, and daughter Sophia age 10. He is also survived by his mother Cecilia and stepfather Darrell Green of Maize, KS; his father Mike and stepmother Barbara Miller of Wichita, KS; his sisters Jill Miller of Wichita, KS and Jennifer Miller (Bob Green) of Treasure Island, FL; mother-in-law Anna Carol Fazzino and brother-in-law Shannon Plonkey of Canon City, CO; brother-in-law Erik Plonkey (Kellie) of Omaha, NE; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Edward and Clarice Miller of Wichita, KS and maternal grandparents Cecil and Virginia Gene McBee of Larned, KS, his father-in-law Kenneth Plonkey of Colorado Springs, CO, and step father-in-law Budgie Fazzino of Canon City, CO.
Michael graduated from Wichita North High School in 1987, following in the footsteps of his mother, father, and sisters. He attended Wichita State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature at the University of Kansas. His ultimate career was in IT, retiring from his last job as a contractor for the Denver Federal Center in January 2022. He was a talented singer and his nurses at the cancer center asked him to sing for them when he came in for appointments. He was passionate about music, movies, books, and video games, and wrote a memoir to leave his children. He often hosted Rock Band parties at his home, where his wide circle of friends enjoyed his clever wit, creativity, generous spirit, and extensive knowledge of literature and music. He has passed these gifts on to his talented children.
When he knew his time was short, he wrote an emotional goodbye online on Facebook and received more than 150 heartfelt messages of love and memories of good times from friends as far back as grade school years.
