Michael Nelson passed away peacefully on November 29th, 2021 at home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 9th, 1952 in Ogden, Utah.
Michael was raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota alongside his four brothers. Right out of high school he began his career traveling the Midwest states utilizing his natural talent for sales. He moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where he met his wife, Barbara. During their marriage they spent time in New Mexico, Utah, and finally settled in Colorado. Throughout his sales career, he met clients and customers, many of whom became life-long friends.
Michael was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, spending time in the mountains, cooking, and being with family. He loved a good joke and was an amazing story teller. He was a devoted Broncos fan and attended many games with family and friends. He loved country music, especially Bluegrass.
One of his most meaningful roles in life was being a Grandfather and was admired as the “baby whisperer” of the family. As a dad, he was adored by his children and would drop anything to be there for them. His wife Barbara was the love of his life and he spent 44 years making their life together beautiful. Later in life, Michael and Barbara enjoyed traveling to tropical destinations and enjoying the outdoors on their bikes. He was a great example of a godly husband, father, brother, and friend and his legacy will live on through his family.
Michael is preceded in death by his mother Reva Nelson; brothers Daniel Nelson and Kerry Nelson. He is survived by his wife Barbara; children Julia (Aaron) Phelps of Ivins, Utah, Sara (Terrence) Gibbons of Littleton, Colorado, Mitchell (Amber) Nelson of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers Kelly (Cheryl) Nelson of Rainbow City, Alabama, Lt. Colonel William (Karen) Nelson of Port Saint Joe, Florida; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at Red Rocks Church, Park Meadows campus, 9995 Park Meadows Dr. Lone Tree, CO 80124 at 11:00 am on Monday, December 6, 2021. A viewing will take place one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be held at Seven Stones Chatfield Cemetery following the service.
