Michael Edmund Reidy

Michael E. Reidy died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Porter Hospice surrounded by family. Mike was born in West Mineral, Kansas on August 5, 1918, to Anna and Tim Reidy and raised in nearby Pittsburg, Kansas. He received an undergraduate degree from Pittsburg Kansas Teachers College before the family moved to Denver in the late 1930's. After graduating from the University of Denver College of Law, Mike began a distinguished legal career with the Denver law firm of Pershing, Bosworth, Dick and Dawson (now Sherman and Howard). Mike practiced real estate law for over 60 years with several Denver firms, concluding his professional career with Grimshaw and Harring. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, Eugene Reidy, Sister Margaret Reidy S.L., Edith (Jack) Brittan, Elaine Reidy and Maurice (Patricia) Reidy and his great nephew Parker Witt. He is survived by his sister-in-law Margaret Reidy, brother-in-law Andy Rej, 17 nieces and nephews, 48 great nieces and nephews and 3 great-great nieces and nephews. A devout Catholic, Mike helped found and lead the Denver Serra Club and served as an officer of Serra International. A champion tennis player and a memorable figure in his long white pants, Mike continued to compete on the tennis courts into his early 80's. Mike exerted tremendous energy in his lifelong support of the Democratic Party, serving for many years as a precinct captain. Mike greeted everyone he met with a warm smile, a firm handshake and a twinkle in his eye. He touched hearts everywhere with his deep and unselfish concern for others. We will miss him dearly. Visitation Thursday, April 16 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Horan and McConaty Mortuary, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver and Friday, April 17 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 830 Elm Street. Funeral Mass, Friday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m., Christ the King Catholic Church. Private burial Saturday at Mt. Olivet. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Sisters of Loretto, Development Office, 4000 South Wadsworth, Littleton, CO 80123 or charity of your choice.
