Michael ""Big Mike"" Ruether

""Big Mike"" Ruether was born in Columbia, Missouri on January 2, 1936. He died on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. He spent his childhood years in Glasgow, Missouri on the banks of the Missouri River. His family owned Ruether Chevrolet & Buick. It was here Mike developed his lifelong love of cars. He left Glasgow for Kansas City where he worked for Shelter Insurance as a claim's adjuster and, later, as an insurance agent. Mike transferred to Colorado Springs with Shelter. He moved to Littleton in 1989 where he earned a Bachelor's degree in elementary education at Metro State. In his last job, he tutored at risk students in Littleton Schools.

Mike leaves behind his wife of thirty years, Lois, son Keith (Laura), daughter Jody (Mark), and step daughter Lisa Hogan (Stan) and four grandchildren: Tyler (Denee), Kara (Kalem), Michael (Carly) and Selah. He also leaves behind countless friends and acquaintances who never fail to mention his warmth, kindness and sense of humor.

Mike was a long-time member of St Andrew United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch, CO. When asked what he liked best about St Andrew, he always said the music. Mike was a charter member of ROMEO (retired old men eat out) and enjoyed the ROMEO community, friendships and twice monthly breakfasts! He and Lois also belonged to the Kinship fellowship group where they formed many deep and lasting friendships.

""Big Mike's"" life will be celebrated at St Andrew UMC on Saturday, March 16^th at 1:00 PM. A luncheon reception with the family will follow. The family requests casual dress & bright colors to celebrate Mike's love of family & his life on earth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mike's name to the Parkinson's Association of the Rockies, 1325 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80222.
