Michael "Mike" Brock Barnette, 70 years old, entered eternal rest on January 1, 2022
in Lakewood, Colorado. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, of Conifer, CO; a daughter and
son-in-law, Kimberlee and Tommy Smith of Lubbock, TX and sons; Michael Brock Barnette
Jr., of Riverdale UT, Dean Menges of Conifer CO and Tyler Menges of Conifer CO.
His grandchildren; Tanner Smith of Mineola TX, Emilee Smith of Lubbock TX, Dillon Barnette
and Dani Barnette of Riverdale UT; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Linda Barnette of Levelland,
TX; his nephew, Dane Barnette of Denver CO; a niece, Brooke Kuzina of Denver CO and lots of loving family and friends. Missing Mike is his beloved bulldog / side-kick, Scooter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Janice Barnette of Levelland, TX.
Mike was born on February 12, 1951 in Borger, TX to Gerald and Janice Barnette. Mike
traveled with his family over different areas, including South America during his early adult years,
He worked many years in Levelland, Sundown, Midland, TX and parts of Colorado while working for Chevron Oil Company, as head of the safety department, before his retirement in 2015.
Mike married Kathy Lynn (Singleton), May 26, 2000 in Roswell, NM. They loved traveling
to and visiting different mountain regions. In 2016 they moved to Conifer, Colorado where they own and operate Scooter's Smokehouse & Grill (named after his bulldog, Scooter). Mike was known
for his outstanding Texas BBQ, winning Best BBQ in Colorado by Business Insider / Yelp. He
enjoyed feeding and visiting with all the great folks from Conifer and the surrounding mountain communities.
He was the most loving husband, father, brother and he loved everything about being
"Papa Mike" to his fun loving grandchildren. Mike spent his spare time playing golf, riding his Harley, fishing, listening to great music, talking sports and cheering for his Texas Tech Red Raiders and enjoying his front porch view of the Aspens. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh, great sense of humor and his outstanding smile. Anyone that knew Mike knew he was a kind, generous man who never met a stranger. Mike leaves a legacy of a life well-lived. We pray that his memories will forever live in your hearts.
