Miguel ""Mike"" A. Xavier

XAVIER Miguel A. (Mike), 86, born May 7, 1930 in Shanghai, China, passed away June 4, 2016. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley, brother, Vincent, sister, Rita Gunther, children, Cynthia Everhart (John), Michael (Karen), Tee (Dan Hoopes, dec.), Frank (Lauren), Monica Ptasinski (John), Thomas, Maria Streeby (Shawn) ten grandchildren, Monica and John Everhart, Michael and Stephanie Xavier, Jonathan Hoopes, Joseph and Anna Ptasinski, Nicole, Megan and Francis Xavier, and great grandchild, Cana Xavier. He received his BSEE from the Santa Clara University and his MSEE and PhD in Power System Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He was a pioneer in the fields of frequency relaying and fault recording and analysis. His career of over 60 years includes the first patent for a digital underfrequency relay in 1968. After serving as Technical Director of Inland Testing Labs, Chief Engineer and President of Century Electronics and President of Hathaway Instruments, he founded E-MAX Instruments, Inc. in 1975. He continued the development of fault recorders and monitoring devices for the rest of his career. He never retired. In 1969, he built and operated the Alpine Ice Center skating rink in SE Denver, home of numerous skaters, hockey players and the Denver Spurs of the WHL. He and his wife were loyal fans and sponsors of the high school and college sports careers of all their children and grandchildren. He loved to travel and for over 50 years and included all his children and grandchildren in European adventures and the annual trips to Disneyland. He was also an active member and supporter of St. Louis Catholic Parish and School. Rosary Sunday, June 12, 2:00pm Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver 80246. Funeral Mass, Monday, June 13, 1:00pm at St. Louis Catholic Parish, 3310 S. Sherman, Englewood, 80113. Interment will follow the Funeral Mass at Chapel Hill Cemetery, 6601S. Colorado Blvd., Littleton, 80121. Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan House Shelter, 2301 Lawrence Street, Denver, CO 80205.
