Mildred (Midge) Wedge passed away peacefully at The Villas at Sunny Acres, Thornton, Colorado. Midge was born in Afton, Virginia, the youngest of four children born to Harry Cole Damron and Mary Rosser Noell Damron. Dubbed ""The Queen of Afton Mountain,"" by her late husband Jack, Midge loved growing up in the crack of the mountain. Her first job was as cashier in the gift shop at Natural Bridge. She attended Natural Bridge High School and James Madison College, in Harrisburg, Virginia, but left college to work for the government in Washington, D.C. during World War II. It was there she met and married John William Wedge, Jr., a law student at George Washington University. Eventually, the couple moved to California, where Midge worked for the Mervyn's Department stores. She retired after twenty years of service. Midge loved her family, working jig-saw puzzles with her grandchildren, horse-racing, golf (because the men looked so handsome in their golf clothes), Big Band music and the San Francisco Forty-Niners football. She will be remembered as the social butterfly with the traveling bar in a bucket, and the best fried chicken and potato salad in town. Midge is survived by her two daughters, Karen Howland and Jan Giuliano, sons-in-law, Kirk Howland and Frank Giuliano, her grandchildren, Amy Giuliano, Wedge Howland and Spencer Howland, and her great granddaughter, Katie Cruz. At her request, there will be no funeral service.
