Mildred Elaine Witt passed away peacefully on November 19, 2020. She was 98 years old, born on April 18, 1922. She was the daughter of James and Mary Ewing and sister of Marjorie, Mario and Jim.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Franklin Witt. She is survived by their two children John (Pam) Witt and Jane (Larry) Von Thun, by four grandchildren Matt, Trish, Carly and Jared and six great grandchildren Scott, Clay, Grant, Sarah, Natalie and Lacey. Millie loved her family and was a cheerleader for each and every one of them.
Born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, she attended Rapid City High School, South Dakota School of Mines, and Spearfish Teachers College. Near the end of World War II after Frank came home from fulfilling his time in the military they eloped and spent the early years of their marriage in Fairport, New York until they moved to Denver in 1952. She taught preschool and was a preschool director for many years in the Denver area. Literally hundreds of children benefited from her love and care during those years.
A fountain of common sense, a genius at quilting, she was the best example you could find of working with preschool age children. A family treasure. As her family we enjoyed her home cooking. Her pot roast, fried chicken, and spaghetti sauce were legend. She was always there to defend and encourage each of us through our lives. She will be missed, remembered and loved every day.
“She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed.” Proverbs 3: 26-28
In lieu of flowers please donate in Mildred's honor to Alzheimer's Association of Colorado .
