Millicent Sue ""Millie"" McAndries Grant, 85 known to everyone she encountered as ‘Millie’ died peacefully on May 13, 2018 in Denver, Colorado. Born the only child to Thomas M. and Mildred Platt McAndries on November 1, 1932. Millie was an adventurous child and spent every summer enjoying the wilds of Colorado's outdoors around the family cabin in Buffalo Creek. Both sides of Millie’s family were Colorado pioneer stock; her paternal great grandfather, John Winterbottom struck it rich in the California gold rush in the 1850’s and then came to Colorado where he where he opened the state’s first woolen mill in 1870 (Now a Historic Building 2000 W. 8th Avenue). Millie’s maternal grandfather was Milton Mark who arrived in Colorado in the early 1870’s and was the mayor of Ouray 1886 -1888. Millie was a proud member and participant in the Territorial Daughters of Colorado. Millie graduated from East High School in 1950, and enrolled at CSU in Fort Collins. She met her grandmother’s tenant, William R. Grant, a young oilman from Paris Texas and the two were married in 1953. Their only child, John Rushing Grant, was born in 1955. For the majority of her professional career, Millie worked as a medical assistant for Dale M. “Pete” Atkins, and she served on the board of the Colorado Association of Medical Assistants. Her many years of tireless volunteering included the Denver Zoo (25+ years), The Cherry Creek Arts Festival (20+ years), the National Western Stock Show (20+ years), and St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral where she served as an usher for many years. She also served on the board of the Candlewyck community, where she entertained, lived and enjoyed a limitless supply of friends and neighbors. She was always known for her engaging smile, and was helpful to anyone in need. She was a good listener for everyone with whom she spent time. Millie is survived by her son, John Grant of Ojai, CA, grandsons Christophe and Alexander Grant of Charlottesville, VA, cousins Dorothy Randall of Taos NM, Douglas Peterson of Santa Fe NM, and numerous nieces and nephews around the country. Contributions in her name can be directed to The Denver Zoo or St. John's Cathedral. In honor of Millie, a Memorial Service will be held Wednesday June 6, 2018, 11:00AM at Saint John's Cathedral (1350 N Washington St, Denver, CO 80203).
