Mitzi Marie Erickson

Mitzi Marie Erickson, 72, passed away October 21, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. She was born November 21, 1936, in Springfield, Illinois to Wilmer Ward and Adelaide Hourez Ward. Mitzi grew up in Illiopolis, Illinois. After she graduated from high school as Valedictorian of her class, she moved to Colorado to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Colorado. She also earned a Masters of Arts Degree from Denver University. She was an elementary school music teacher for over 29 years, teaching 18 years at Park Hill Elementary School, Denver Public Schools. Mitzi also played flute and piccolo and taught private flute lessons for many years. She played in the University of Colorado's band while she was a student and later in life played flute and piccolo for several years in the Community Arts Symphony in Denver, Colorado. Mitzi was a strong Christian and an active member at Christ Episcopal Church, Denver for over 30 years. She considered her life in the church to be a very important part of her life. Over the years she sang in the choir and participated in several ministries. Mitzi also loved to travel. Being a school teacher gave her and her husband the opportunity to take their children on trips every summer. After her children were grown, she and her husband took many cruises to different parts of the world and she always looked forward to the next one. Mitzi was a loving mother and wife and is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Eric Erickson, of Aurora, CO; their two children, Brent (and his wife, Debbie) Erickson, of Arvada, CO; and Monique (and her husband, Cliff) Mountain, of Denver; two granddaughters, Brenna and Blakely Erickson; and her brother, John (and his wife, Tracy) Ward, of Illinois. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct 29th, at 2pm, Christ Episcopal Church, 2950 S. University Blvd, Denver.
