Murray was born in Denver, CO. Murray was raised by his mother, Marian (Holzer) Rigsby, and after she married Thomas Rigsby, he was adopted by Thomas, who he called his father. He spent his high school years in Roswell, New Mexico, where he was a member of the “Dirty Dozen”, a group of boys that became life-long friends. After high school and a brief visit to Germany, where his father was stationed, he returned to the US and joined the Air Force National Guard and was stationed in South Dakota. After his time in the Air Force National Guard, Murray became a self-made man who started in the mailroom at the Public Service Company of Colorado and worked his way up to become an Electrical Engineer. Murray retired from the Public Service Company, after 44 years. He was a service-oriented person, who was a member of the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department, the Masonic Lodge of Aurora, Aurora Jaycees, and the Sertoma Club of Aurora. He also coached boys baseball and was a co-founder of the Aurora Youth League, additionally he was also involved with the Boy Scouts and Job’s Daughters. Murray was always looking to help and serve his fellow man. He was a die-hard Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos fan, and an avid fisherman.
To Murray, family became his life, and he is survived by Sue Stein, Steve (Tammie) Rigsby, Stacy (Gary) Boesel, Scott (Beth) Rigsby, Sandy (Patrick) Vigil, Kevin (Kathy) Howe, Brian Howe, Barbara Gibb, Charles Bennett and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Elayne (Rigsby) Danford, Lorraine Rigsby and Ruth Rigsby.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Road, in Centennial, CO, on Monday, March 24th at 10:30am. Following this service a Military service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 4400 W. Kenyon, in Denver, CO at 2:00 pm.
