Nan Mosby Thompson

March 21, 1932 — June 16, 2018

Nan Mosby Thompson, 86, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2018 at her home in Greenwood Village, CO surrounded by her husband and sons. She was born on March 21, 1932 at Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI to James Robert (Bob) and Margaret Wallace Mosby. Ida Cowette, the Mosby's household nanny, affectionately raised Nan and her brother Jim. Nan also had a birthday twin, Mary Grindley Shephard, who was a lifelong friend. Nan grew up in Birmingham, MI. She graduated from Baldwin High School in Birmingham in 1950. After high school, she attended college at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS for two years where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta member and she studied Fine Arts. After college, she married Clyde Everett Thompson on November 28, 1952 at Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills. MI. She began work for Ford Tractor in Detroit, MI while Clyde was serving in the Air Force in Korea. Nan and Clyde were happily married for 65 years. After working at Ford Tractor, she became a Mother and Homemaker raising three sons. Nan was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and was Theta Woman of the Year, past President of P.E.O. Chapter FB philanthropic organization, a Denver Public Schools volunteer, and a Docent at the Museum of Western Art. She was an avid skier, tennis player, and liked to play golf. Nan and Clyde enjoyed their close friends and Pot Luck group for over 30 years. They both made a number of domestic and overseas trips with lifelong friends Bob and Jane Lacy, Aubrey and Nancy Linville, and Larry and Charlotte Barrett. She was very dedicated to her loving husband, three sons, their wives, her seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Nan was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Margaret Mosby and brother Jim Mosby. Nan is survived by her spouse Clyde Everett Thompson of Greenwood Village, CO; sister-in-law Lucy Lee McDowell of Kansas City, MO; her sons Mark Robert (Barb) Thompson of Kansas City, MO; Scott Michael (Pat) Thompson of Red Feather Lakes, Co, and Todd Mosby (Mary) Thompson of Denver, CO; her grandchildren: Richard James Thompson, Alyssa Eileen Thompson, Matthew James Thompson, Molly Elizabeth Platenak, Mark Carter Thompson, Luke Everett Thompson and Joshua Scott Thompson; her great-grandchildren Robyn Charlotte Thompson, Ophelia Ruth Thompson and Juniper Anne Platenak; her nieces and nephews Josh Robert Mosby, Kathleen Helen Thompson, Frank Wilson Thompson, JR., Clyde William Toland, and Aimee McDowell Scovell. A private Memorial Service will be held with her immediate family on June 30, 2018 at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80246. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to P.E.O. Chapter FB, Scholarship Fund, 5592 S. Nevada St., #109, Littleton, CO 80120.
