Nancy Falkenberg Deardorff, 49, died November 17, 2006 in Denver Colorado and with her passing the world lost a kind, caring, and loving soul. She was born on April 24, 1957 to John Frederick and Gloria Arfsten Falkenberg. She grew up in Denver and attended East High School. She received her bachelor's degree in 1979 from the University of New Hampshire, where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. After graduation, Nancy worked in the financial field in Boston and returned to Denver in 1983. In Denver, she worked at First Trust Corporation as a supervisor in the Research Department where she met her husband Bert Mahlon Deardorff. Nancy then worked for United Bank of Denver and United Capital Management Services. In 1993, she received her Masters of Information Technology from the University of Colorado, Denver. Nancy continued to work in the financial field as a consultant until 1998 when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Nancy then devoted her life to volunteer work lending her great organizational and IT skills to Denver Digs Trees, The Park People, Spa for the Spirit, and Day of Caring for Breast Cancer. She gave of herself to better her community and provide support and information to other cancer survivors. Her caring and love of children also led her to volunteer with St. Joseph's Hospital in the prenatal care unit. She was also known to all of the children at Franklin Elementary School as 'Aunt Nancy' from her volunteer work with the school. She had a tremendous love of quilting and creating fused glass art. A wonderful quote about Nancy from her great friend Elise Spain: Nancy was a master at making good choices about things that matter most: Love your family. Use your talents. Tend your garden. Keep on swimming. And don't whine. When things didn't go our way and I'd start to complain, she'd never let me get by with that. ("Is that a whiney voice?", she'd say.) I'll be able to remember the joy of being with her all my life. Nancy and Bert were fortunate to be able to pursue their love of travel together in their 18 years of marriage. Nancy fought every step of the way for eight years against her disease and always had a positive attitude towards life. Nancy's first priority was her family. In 1995 Nancy and Bert bought the family home where Nancy grew up and it was a frequent gathering place for her family. Nancy is survived by her husband Bert, a brother, John Falkenberg, and four sisters, Dorothy Borland, Kathy See, Virginia Ogles and Elizabeth Sarow. Her spirit also lives on in her four nephews and two nieces whom she loved so dearly. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 AM, November 27 at the Horan & McConaty Chapel at 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver. Donations in Nancy's memory can be made to Hospice of Metro, 501 S. Cherry St, Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246, or The American Cancer Society, 2255 S. Oneida St., Denver, CO 80224.
