Nancy Wootton Dorn, 73, died peacefully May 30, 2004 at Red Rocks HealthCare Center after a long battle with cancer. For more than a half of a century she was active in a number of humanitarian, civic and religious causes. Among her causes were prevention of child abuse and neglect, voter registration and education, and battered women's shelters. In 1988 her efforts on behalf of abused children were recognized in at the Symposium of Child Victimization in Anaheim, California where she was honored as the state of Colorado's most outstanding children's advocate. Mrs. Dorn was a member of the National League of Women Voters for more than 30 years and served a three year term on the board of directors of the Denver League as a coordinator for voter services. She was a League of Women Voters' lobbyist on children's issues in the Colorado state legislature. She also was a co-founder of the University of Denver Friends of International Students, an organization devoted to assisting international students assimilate into the life of DU. Mrs. Dorn served two terms (six years) as senior warden of The Church of the Ascension and helped guide the Church through some difficult times. She is survived by her husband, William S., three children, Dr. Julia Aiello of Littleton, CO, Philip J. Dorn of Hawthorn Woods, IL, and Abigail Dorn of Lakewood, CO as well as seven grandchildren. Services will be held at The Church of the Ascension, 600 Gilpin Street at 11 am, Tuesday, June 8 with a private interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
