Nancy Jo Dukes passed away at age 68 on a beautiful fall day, October 6, 2021. Nancy was born in McCook, Nebraska on March 16,1951 to parents Harold and Betty Brauer. The family, including younger brother David, relocated to Westminster, Colorado when Nancy was nine years old. She was a graduate of Westminster High School and went on to complete her undergraduate and master’s degrees in education at the University of Northern Colorado. For ten years, Nancy taught special education in the Jefferson County school system, primarily Lumberg Elementary, before retiring to devote her full-time efforts to raising her son Ian and supporting her husband, Steve.

Nancy was a devoted mother and wife. She loved her dogs and squirrels and birds and was deliberately and extraordinarily outgoing and friendly to everyone she knew or didn’t know. Nancy is survived by her husband Steve, son Ian of Reno, Nevada, and brother David Brauer of Honolulu, Hawaii. She is also survived by her aunt Lila Leibrandt of McCook, Nebraska and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Betty Brauer.

A memorial service for Nancy will take place at Arvada United Methodist Church, 6750 Carr St., Arvada, CO on Wednesday, October 27, at 11:00 a.m. with the family available for visitation for the hour preceding the memorial. For those attending, please be mindful that masks are required in the church. If unable to attend, the memorial service will be live streamed on the church’s YouTube channel.
