Nancy Nevell Fogg, loving wife, mother and grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family following two devastating strokes.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 32 years Peter L. Fogg of Denver, daughters Karin “Kaki” McGeary (Matt) of Essex Junction, VT and Molly S. Kinne of Colorado Springs, precious grandchildren Caitlin and Charlie McGeary, and brother Richard W.B. Nevell (Wayan Suarni) of Hancock, NH.
Born on March 31, 1944 in the City of New York to Raye Babcock and Thomas G.W. Nevell, Nancy grew up in Greenwich, CT. She attended primary school at Greenwich Academy, graduating in 1962. She later earned a B.A. in American Studies from Skidmore College in 1966, and an M.A. in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967.
Nancy worked for two years as a history teacher at Germantown Academy in Pennsylvania before moving with her former husband, Dr. Jonathan H. Kinne, to Hanau, Germany, where daughter Kaki was born. In 1973, the family moved to Seattle, WA before finally settling in Colorado in 1975. Daughter Molly was born soon after, and Nancy poured her heart into raising her two girls, instilling in them her core values of honesty, loving kindness, authenticity and helping others, and teaching them to always hold a sense of wonder.
Nancy was a dedicated volunteer whose community service spanned decades. Affectionately known as “Nev” to her oldest friends, Nancy was very involved with many clubs and activities at Greenwich Academy and Skidmore, where she served as Dorm President, College Government Association Treasurer and Senior Class President. She remained a loyal alumna of both schools and looked forward to returning to GA for her 60th reunion this spring. In 1963, Nancy joined the Junior League, working on numerous service projects and fundraisers throughout her active years before becoming a sustaining member.
In the 12 years she served as a volunteer manager for the Junior League of Denver, Nancy became a skilled strategic planning facilitator and developed expertise in group process and organizational problem solving. In 1987, she joined the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as Director of Training and Volunteers and was named Executive Director in 1991. Nancy led TAC through a successful merger before becoming an independent nonprofit management consultant in 1993 through her retirement in 2016. Armed with her trademark flip charts, markers and sticky notes, she provided strategic planning, training and board development to countless nonprofit organizations of all sizes throughout Colorado and beyond.
Nancy was also an active member of First Plymouth Congregational Church in Denver for 35 years, where she taught Sunday School, served as Church Moderator and participated in numerous committees, including an action-oriented, faith-based gun violence prevention initiative.
Nancy was a phenomenal cook who loved bringing family and friends together for wonderful meals and conversation, and her pie crust was legendary. She spent countless hours working in her garden, and loved spending time in the mountains hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, and skiing…listening to her favorite tunes on headphones and “ballroom dancing” down the groomers. Always curious, she was a voracious reader and a Sunday puzzle expert, and she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with her family, meditating and yoga. As much as she valued quiet time at home, she also loved to travel and explore, visiting too many states, National Parks and countries to list. And she always loved music, with fond memories of Jimmy Buffett concerts, Botanic Garden concerts and kitchen dance parties alike.
But her favorite place was on the water… Nancy was a true sailor’s sailor, learning to sail from her Padre at Riverside Yacht Club as a young girl. She spent many summers as part of a crew racing J-24 sailboats on Lake Dillon, CO, and took several incredible sailing trips overseas. She loved to float in the salt water and feel the sand in her toes, finding a way to visit the ocean at least once every year.
Nancy lived her life with abundant joy, abiding faith, deep gratitude, and always extravagant love. She treasured her friendships and opened her heart and arms to so many people, including some who thought of her as a second mom. Above all, family was everything. She cherished annual family trips to Block Island, visits to Vermont to see Kaki and her family, time with Molly, and she especially loved being Gama to Caitlin and Charlie. She was a wonderful mom, cheerleader, trusted advisor and friend to Kaki and Molly. And in 1989 she found the love of her life in her dearest Pete. With her gentle spirit, beautiful smile and sparkling eyes, she was and will always be love and light.
The Celebration of Life Service for Nancy will be livestreamed and can be viewed at https://youtu.be/Lgz8MhM-iKw .
