Nancy Grafmyer

August 1, 1935 — October 30, 2020

Westminster

Nancy Lea Grafmyer, of Westminster, Colorado passed away on October 30, 2020.

Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jim; her parents, Jim & Pat Corbetta; and her brother, Jerry Corbetta. Survived by her sister, Barbara Rogers (Jerry); brother-in-law, Gary Piper and nephews, Dan (Meegan) Rogers, Mike (Anna) Rogers, Vince Rogers, Kyle Corbetta and Zach & Ryan Piper.

Nancy was best known for her love for her family and music. She loved spending time with her nephews and their families and loved the holiday dinners with jam sessions to follow. She started playing trumpet and piano at an early age. She won a scholarship at Cathedral High School. Nancy was in many bands (Just Kids Band) and after graduating from high school, she was in The Joy Caylor which was an orchestra that traveled all over the United States. She also played hundreds of USO shows with her brother and sister. In fact, she met her future husband, Jim (a trumpet player) at a gig.

They married in 1956. Jim was in the Navy Band and they traveled throughout the east and west coasts. During the weekends, they had their own combo and played at many functions. After serving 20 years in the Navy, they returned to Denver and started their own band called Nancy Lea and the Aristocrats of Music. They played all over Denver for weddings, dances and clubs. She was president of the Musicians Union and also had her own booking agency.

Following Jim's death, she moved to San Marino Assisted Living where she also played piano for their functions. She enjoyed her many friends there and enjoyed going to Blackhawk, playing Bingo and going out to eat. She will be missed by all.
