Nancy Peterson, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away on October 24, 2022 at the age of 81. Her home was in Aztec, NM, but she had been living in the Seattle, WA area to be closer to family in the last few years of her life. She was born in Thistle, UT, and spent some of her youth there before her family moved to Golden, CO. She lost her father to a railroad accident at a young age and not long after, her mother married Oliver Kolin. In the ensuing years, she helped raise her (3) little brothers before graduating from Golden High School in 1959. She then married Mel Baker and started her own family.
After about a decade and many adventures living around Utah and Colorado, her marriage to Mel ended and she relocated back to Golden, where she waited tables at Foss’ Restaurant and cared for her (2) children. As fate would have it, soon after she met a gentleman name Bill Peterson and they were married, starting a blended family with Linda and Jerry and Bill’s daughter, Chama, in Arvada. Not too long after that, they had one child together, named Kirsten.
Nancy and her new family lived in a number of places around Colorado and Nebraska before settling in New Mexico. She always worked hard to bring in extra cash for the family, without losing sight of her role as a wife and mother. She was an excellent cook and used that talent in a number of restaurants, as well as the for the school lunch program and the local soup kitchen. She was also a talented artist and spent a number of years painting landscapes; capturing the beauty of the world around her. She kept a warm and inviting home and made those around her feel accepted. She was a kind, smart and caring person who had an easy-going personality and a quick wit. Her later years were filled with jokes and her humor filled the room with life; keeping everyone wondering what she’d say next. She is sorely missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, step father, brothers, sister and son. She is survived by her daughters, Linda and Kirsten and her stepdaughter, Chama and has seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Mike (Lana) and Jack (Donna), and their children. She will be interred at Fort Logan Cemetery, in Englewood, Co.
