Nathan Scott Bell

July 10, 1987 — July 4, 2005

Nathan means 'gift of God' and what a joy and blessing this gift was to those whose lives were touched by Nathan Scott Bell. Nathan cared deeply about people and thought deeply about things that mattered in life. He liked nothing better than the opportunity to spend time with people he enjoyed and loved, showing interest in their ideas and in their differences. When Nathan entered Rangeview High School his freshman year, he signed up for a theater class and in that discovered a passion that would endure and grow. He was at home on stage and behind the scenes, acting and hosting, trying his hand at stand-up comedy, directing and even singing. A highlight of his drama experiences was a trip to New York City and the world of Broadway plays. Nathan aspired to extend his passions to film directing and, typical of his broad-brush interests in life, planned to pursue liberal arts studies when he started college in the fall. He received three scholarships to attend CSU. Among Nathan's closest friends were his church 'small group,' a band of 'brothers' who met weekly to grow as Christian young men, to challenge each other and to share openly who they were and who they were becoming. He loved the CREW youth group and eagerly participated in mission trips and retreats. Nathan's faith was not a blind faith, but one in which he sought to really grasp and to share the great Story of life. Nathan also enjoyed Boy Scouts, and completed all requirements for Eagle Scout, the highest Scouting award. He enjoyed the outdoor camping experiences with Scouts and was privileged to be a part of two high adventure 10-day backpack trips at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Nathan was born in 1987 on his dad's birthday, July 10. Every year the two of them celebrated their birthday together by going on a special excursion '"" mountain hikes, bike rides, and just 'hanging out.' This year, they had planned the ultimate 18th birthday celebration '"" a family vacation at Disneyland. Whenever Nathan said good-bye he did it with a hug. Many of us will continue to feel his hugs and the warmth of his life for years to come.
