Nellie Ann (Thompson) Bauer, at the age of 74 years old, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 in Parker, Colorado.
Nellie was born on December 30, 1947 in Lamar, Colorado to Cecil Eugene and Edith May Thompson. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1966 and attended Lamar Community College. It was at a boarding house in Lamar where she met her future husband of more than 50 years, Gerald Bauer. He asked her to iron his softball uniform, she told him no “because she might get used to it”. He said that’s when he knew he had her. They dated for 8 months and were married on December 24, 1971. Two of their five children, Lisa and Michael, were born in Lamar. The other three, Lindsay, Shelly and Jordan, were born in and just outside of Denver. In the early 80’s, they moved to Aurora and put down their roots. Nellie worked part time jobs doing daycare, house cleaning, and clerical work in order to be present for her children while they were growing up.
Nellie was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 30, 1969. Her love for God and neighbor motivated her to volunteer as a publisher of the good news. She was determined to help others learn about the hope Jehovah God promises in the Bible.
It was her strong faith and trust in her creator that gave her the strength and courage to endure as her memory began to fade. She had complete confidence in his promise to restore her to perfect health and she even comforted her children with the promise of her resurrection when they sat with her while she passed.
There were so many things that brought Nellie joy throughout her life; bowling, camping, playing piano, gardening, and making candy for her friends. She was known for her mean card skills and her love of music. But above all else, spending time with her family was what meant the most to her. She made sure their house was a haven filled with friends, laughter and good times.
Nellie was preceded in death by her Father Cecil Thompson; Mother May Thompson; Brothers Sherman and Tom Thompson; Sister Joan Fluke; Granddaughter Keagan Fagan; Brothers-in-law Richard Fluke, Johnny Bauer and Gary Bauer; Sisters-in-law Billie Bauer and Delores Bauer; Nieces Tasha Turner, Kim Bauer, Kandi Bauer and Theresa Espinosa; Nephews Jimmy Anderson, Bart Cruikshank and Kory Bauer.
