Nellie Louise Vecchio

Nellie Louise Vecchio, 76, of Arvada, Colorado passed away on August 29, 2013. Nellie was born in Malad, Idaho, on March 19, 1937, to Ora Louise Estenson Lines and Paul Wesley Lines. Survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald Vecchio; loving daughters Mary Louise Green and her husband Jay, Nellie Ann Hoffacker and her husband Doug, Donna Marie Wilkinson and her husband Brian; grandchildren Nellie Jo (Hoffacker), Wiley (Jeff), Dominic Green, Nathan Green, and Melanie Hoffacker; brother's Paul Allen Lines and Dale Wesley Lines. Preceded in death by her parents Paul Wesley Lines and Ora Louise Estenson Lines; and friend (more like a sister) Lois Schlegel. She was a devoted and loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. In her early years as she grew up in Idaho, she remembered picking potatoes with her mother for her spending money. She is a graduate of Aurora Central High School, where she was a cheerleader. It was while working at Cottrell's Mens Store in Denver, that she met her future husband, Don. Nellie and Don were married at Holy Family Church on January 11, 1959. Nellie's first home in Arvada was on Flower Street and she went on to live in three different homes in Arvada. She spent the last 46 years of her life living on Parfet Court in Arvada, which was built in 1967 for her and her family. Nellie also worked at Don's Pharmacy while she was pregnant with Nellie Ann, but eventually went on to being a full-time mother to her three daughters. She was active in Blue Birds and Brownies, she taught ""Sunday School"" at Arvada United Methodist Church, where she remained a long time member until her daughter's marriage. For a short time, Nellie and her family attended Trinity Methodist Church until becoming a member of Broomfield United Methodist Church where her daughter and granddaughters attended. During Nellie's many years in Colorado, she developed many close friends with whom she remained in contact with over the years. Nellie was very talented in crafts and worked many hours doing ceramic, porcelain painting and Japanese Bonka (Painting with cloth) where she developed a lifelong friendship with her dear friend, Lois Schlegel. She also was a collector of Disney memorabilia, Precious Moments, and Beannie Babies. Nellie and her husband loved to travel the world and made close friendships in places like Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Hawaii. She continued these friendships throughout the decades, to which many of these friends are mourning her passing. Besides her ability to make friends, Nellie had a passion to help the underprivileged and did not hesitate to share her time and money with those in need. She did not advertise her generosity. She was honored by her oncologist for her courage, perseverance and honesty in battling her disease….She is loved and will be missed by those she leaves behind. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 1:00PM at Broomfield United Methodist Church, 545 West 10th Avenue, Broomfield, Colorado. There will be a reception at the church following the service. An Entombment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, at 3 PM, 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Nellie's honor to the ""Nellie Vecchio Angiosarcoma Fund"" at any 1st Bank location or by mail to 1st Bank, 4350 Wadsworth Boulevard, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 and/or to Exempla Collier Hospice Center, 3210 Lutheran Parkway, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
