Nevadine Cox

August 17, 1923 — May 24, 2011

Daughter of a wheat farmer in the small town of Kipp, Kansas, near Salina, Kansas. Deane was a 4H baking champion in high school and earned a nursing scholarship to St. John's School of Nursing in Salina, Kansas. She worked as a nurse before joining the Army Nurse Corps as a Lieutenant and went to southern France through Ft. Carson, Colorado. She met Nelson in France and they were married in Paris and honeymooned on the French Riviera. She was discharged as a dependent of Nelson and lived in France and Germany before she and Nelson returned to the United States. They had daughter, Jacquelynn, who was born at Ft. Meade, Maryland. Deane was a homemaker in Middle River, Maryland when Nelson joined the Martin Company, later Lockheed Martin. She enjoyed being a Brownie leader and took GI Correspondence School of Cooking and became a good cook. She served as the President of the Homemaker's Club and was Secretary of the Non-Practicing and Part-Time Nurse's Association. She was also a Charter Member of the Women in Military Service Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery and served on the Staff Relations Committee at Calvary Baptist Church and was active in the bridge group, Berean Class, and social club of Association of University Women. Deane's other passions were golfing and hiking. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 11:30 A.M. at Calvary Baptist Church of Denver, 6500 East Girard Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80224.
