Nicholas ""Nick"" Edward Hettrick

Nicholas ""Nick"" Edward Hettrick (August 26, 1986-February 4, 2016) left this world unexpectedly last week, at the young age of 29. He was born and raised in Lexington, KY and later lived and worked in Charleston, SC; and most recently in Denver, CO. Nick was a free-spirited young man who had a passion for adventure in all its forms. He loved outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, and surfing, as well as structured sports such as running, basketball and soccer. Throughout his life Nick also enjoyed furthering his knowledge of contemporary music, classic cars, military history, and cooking. Ice cream and eggnog were among his favorite treats. Nick had a kind heart and a clever sense of humor. The combination of his smile and dimples would melt your heart. Nick loved his large family deeply. As family member, Rev. Robert Edwards, put it: we aren't always here for a long time, but we're here to enjoy a good time with our family and friends for however much time we're given. Fortunately there was much love and there were many good times in Nick's short life. He is survived by his daughters, Carolina and Lauren Hettrick; his father, Frederick ""Duke"" Hettrick of Nicholasville, KY; his mother and step-father Linda and Bryan DeRemer of Charleston, SC; brothers Michael Hettrick (and wife Casey) and Kris Hettrick; sisters Amber Hettrick and Hannah DeRemer; several nieces and a nephew; an assortment of close aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as many more relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory. Nick was recently preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Ed and Cathy Wilson of Youngstown, OH. This has given the family much comfort in knowing that he would not be alone on his journey. Private services were held at Horan & McConaty in Aurora, CO from 9am-1pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.
