Nicholas Gouverneur Rutgers, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on December 29, 2017. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, son of Nicholas and Helen (Johnson) Rutgers. Nicholas was the director of the Bishop Museum in Honolulu and two other institutions in Hawaii, the Pacific Ocean Research Foundation in Kona and the Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Kamuela. He was also an overseer of the Rutgers University Foundation in New Brunswick, N.J., the fund-raising arm of the university, which is named after Henry Rutgers, a founder and benefactor of the university who is an ancestor.
