Noreen Agnes (Bartley) Ruff
Noreen Agnes Ruff, aged 93, died peacefully on February 19, 2023, with family at her side. She was born on August 8, 1929, in Astoria, New York. After high school, she attended Ladycliff College, going on to work for the telephone company until she was married in 1955 to Lt. Clarence Gerald Ruff. She was predeceased in death by her husband, her son, Thomas Bartley Ruff, her daughter, Martha Anne (Ruff) Jackson as well as her sister, Joan Barry. She is survived by her eldest son, Dr. William G. Ruff, six grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Katherine, Kaley, Jonathan, and Kenneth Todd, as well as two great-grandchildren, Taren, and Jack Thomas.
Until the last three months of her life, Noreen remained active. Her neighbors often referred to her as having the energy of energizer rabbit in that she kept going and going. As the wife of a career Army officer, she lived in a variety of places across the United States and Europe before settling in the Denver area, where she has lived for the past 47 years. She traveled extensively with her husband during their retirement years including frequent cruises highlighted by a cruise around the world. Passionate about acquiring and selling collectables, especially antique glass, the hours in her shop and with her friends brought her much pleasure and joy. Throughout her life she was most proud of being a military wife while raising three children.
Services will be held at West Point, NY this summer, where she will be interred with her husband of 56 years. Those who wish to remember Noreen in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the American Cancer Society, The National ALS Foundation, Special Olympics of Montana, and the Eagle Mount Foundation of Bozeman, Montana.
