SCHLEY, NORMA LOUISE Norma, proud mother and joyful friend of many, died Jan. 22 at Porter Hospice in Centennial, Colo., from complications associated with cancer. She was 76. Norma grew up in southern Colorado and in Denver. She attended Denver's North High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Colorado, where her studies sparked a lifelong love of reading and sharing great books. Norma was many things: a mom, a grandmother, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, and a loyal and loving friend to those who were inspired by her generosity and spirit. She will be remembered for her smile and her love of other people, and for the unfailing warmth and kindness she offered to beloved friends and recent acquaintances alike. (Along with a darn fine spaghetti sauce whose recipe was handed down from her mother, Angelina.) Professionally, Norma worked in the fields of human resources and retailing. From 1973 to 1993 she was employed by May D&F, where she was named Manager of Employee Relations in 1983. Norma is survived by her brother William Valentine and his wife Margaret, of Denver; son Scott Schley and his wife Linda Schley of Lone Tree; son Stewart Schley and his wife Gayle Long of Denver; grandchildren Matthew, Allison, Audrey and Thomas Schley, and Daniela and Austin Evans; and a large and loving extended family. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 S. Quebec St., Centennial. Contributions in Norma's name can be made to Cancer League of Colorado, www.cancerleague.org.
