Norman Dean Fulton, a longtime resident of Colorado, passed away peacefully on June 10th 2023, at his home in Westminster. Normal was 83 years old.
Norman was born on January 8th, 1940, in Rexford, Kansas, the son of Lloyd and Nellie Fulton. He grew up in Westminster, Colorado with his 12 brother and sisters, including his twin sister, Norma.
Norman proudly served his county as a member of The United States Marine Corps. A Vietnam Veteran, he served as a Gunnery Sergeant, was a sniper, and received many accolades for his service.
Norman was a brave and loyal soldier, and a loving husband and father. He married his wife Kathleen on August 31st, 1961, in Orange County, California. Norman and Kathleen loved to spend time at the beach, horseback riding, camping, and fishing together. Together, they had two children, Ken and Yvonne. Norman and Kathleen were happily married and their love story spanned for 44 wonderful years until the time of Kathleen’s passing in 2005.
Norman’s family, related or not, was the most important thing in his life. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, sibling, uncle, and friend to many. Norman’s house was the family gathering spot for many holiday celebrations. Norman enjoyed cooking, and he had many trademark dishes.
After serving his country as a Marine for 20 years, he then went on to work many years at Graphic Packaging International in Golden, Colorado, and later as a Maintenance Director for Elms Haven where he finally retired. He continued to collect and repair until the end.
Norman was an avid fisherman, gardener, and enjoyed going to flea markets and garage sales. He also enjoyed gambling, tinkering in his garage, CB radios, listening to country music, and watching western TV shows and movies. He had a passion for the rodeo and horses, as well as guns and weaponry, and was a highly skilled sharpshooter.
He was active within the Veterans Association at American Legion Post 11-11, as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 3940. Norman was referred to by his fellow Marines as “Gunny” and was known as “Stormin’ Norman” for his CB radio handle, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly called him “Papa”.
Preceding him in death were his father and mother, Lloyd Fulton and Nellie Fulton; stepmother Mary Fulton; his wife Kathleen Fulton; brothers Marvin Fulton, Gene Fulton, Duane Fulton, and Ken Fulton; sisters Norma Stewart, Clara Farmer, and Nelda Fulton; and grandson Joshua Owings.
Survivors include Norman’s son Ken Fulton, his daughter Yvonne Tucker; his brothers Don Fulton and Ron Fulton; and sisters Goldie Boles, Karen Jehorek, and Linda Riggs. Norman also had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Norman was adored by his friends and family. He had a great ability to make others smile and had a memorable sense of humor. He made an impact on many lives, and he will be immensely missed. His memory will forever be cherished.
