Norman Wayne Groninger was born on June 29, 1930 on a farm in Northeast Nebraska. He was the second of seven siblings and the first born son of Raymond and Marie Groninger. He attended school in Nebraska and served in the United States Army from 1947 until 1951, part of the time in Guam. He achieved the rank of sergeant at age 18. Norm worked from a very young age, always had a job. He hoed cockleburrs, shocked grain, sold popcorn at the outdoor movies in Battle Creek, Nebraska, and did whatever work was available. He joined Standard Oil (Amoco) in 1954 and worked in Marketing and Sales until his retirement in 1985. During that time, Amoco moved him and his family from Nebraska to California to Colorado. Norm won (earned) many fine trips for Carol and himself where wonderful memories were made. All who knew Norm were aware of his dry, sometimes sarcastic sense of humor. And his pithy comments, referred to as 'Normisms.' He and Carol, who he would tell, ""I love you more than life itself,"" married in 1954. Son Steven was born in 1955 and daughter Jodi in 1959. And then the grandchildren, whom he really did love more than life itself, Kendra, Kyle and Jordan. And they loved him and his teasing and joking manner. Norm is survived by Carol, wife of 60 years, son Steve (Cindy), daughter Jodi (Kurt,) three grandkids, 2 sisters, Gerry and Ellen, and one brother, Don and many nieces and nephews. A Committal service will take place at Fort Logan on Thursday, 2/12/15 at 2 p.m. Please meet at Staging area A. The family will be hosting an open house immediately following the service at Kurt and Jodi's house (5425 E. Dry Creek Circle Centennial, CO 80122) Please share your memories of Norm and your condolence messages with the family below.
