Norman Granbery

April 23, 1933 — March 27, 2021

Norman moved to Denver from Texas in 1958 and opened the Polo Lounge at 410 15th Street.

This was his first venture of many into the nightclub industry.  His footprint can still be found on the corner of East Colfax and Clarkson where the Gold Nugget Disco stood from 1977 – 2000. His entrepreneurial spirit continued in Port Aransas, Texas with several commercial adventures which still remain in operation today.

Norman had a great love for the outdoors.  With his wife Carol he enjoyed his cabin on the Western slope of Colorado where he kept horses and was a successful elk hunter and avid snowmobiler.

He also enjoyed his second home, a beach house in Port Aransas, Texas where he spent many years involved in business.  Some of which were The Seahawk Motel where he was partners with his niece LeeAnn Crews and her husband Andy.

Norman and LeeAnn shared a special bond throughout their life.

Other enterprises included many boat storage units and a strip mall.  He loved fishing in “Port A” with family and friends.  One of his proudest moments was catching a 350 lb. Blue Marlin in the Gulf of Mexico.

Norman had a curiosity for learning which lasted his entire life.

He was well read on many subjects, especially history and business.

One of his favorite things was to read the ink off the Wall Street Journal.

Norman was a tinkerer.  Nothing was thrown away that he thought could be repaired.  His tinkering led to a collection of tools that would make Home Depot proud.  When it came to renovations or building he saw endless possibilities.

He is preceded in death by his parents:

Father: Archie Lee Granbery, Sr.

Mother: Ida Mae Olson

Sisters: Orene Adams, Lucille Hollifield, and Jewette Anderson

Brothers:  Thurman Granbery, Archie Lee Granbery, Jr.

Nephews:  Jimmy Adams, Neal Anderson, Preston Adams

He is survived by his partner Carol McCarthy, who in 2013, after 49 years, consented to walk down the path of matrimony.  He is also survived by his sister Maudean West and

Nephews: Mike Clayton, Norman Anderson, Dean Anderson

Nieces: Susan Dionne, Nancy Boyer, LeeAnn Crews, Christie Hitchcock

And numerous grand nieces and nephews.

And not to be forgotten, by his 7lb poodle, Bubba (Insert Heart)
