Novella Frances (Maes) Lucero peacefully went home to her Lord on July 6th 2021 at the age of 103. She was born on December 20, 1917, in Alamosa, Colorado. She was preceded by her husband Cy Lloyd Lucero, an Army veteran, and her brother David Andrew and sister Edna Pearl. She will be missed by her brothers Raoul Maes and his wife Geraldine, Kenneth Maes and his wife Pat, James Maes, and his wife Diane and their families.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Larry Lucero and his wife Suzanne, and Lynda Valley and her husband Rick. She has two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Bennett and her husband Kevin, and Nicole Ann Rowsell, and her husband Jason. She also has four great-grandchildren, Madison, Trevor, Presley, and Rylan, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
Novella served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and loved to talk about her Navy experiences. She was devoted to her church and was active in many ways over the years. One of her favorite Bible passages was Lamentations 3:22-24 about hope in the Lord’s faithfulness, and one of her favorite hymns was “How Great Thou Art”.
Novella was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. She was honored on the field at a Broncos game for her 100th Birthday.
On August 5th, a family viewing will be at 10:00AM at Horan & McConaty 7577 West 80th Avenue in Arvada, Colorado, followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30AM, and a brief service at 2:00PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
