Orlando Daniel Martinez, departed from his earthly life at age 69 on August 27, 2016 at his home in Littleton, Colorado. Cremation will take place on Monday, September 05, 2016. Memorial Service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Horan & McConaty-Lakewood 3101 S. Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, CO 80227. Samuel Lopez, officiating. On October 18, 1946, Orlando was born to Nicholas R. and Phoebe C. Martinez in Denver, Colorado. He attended Manual High school in Denver. Orlando was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and proudly served his country as part of the Battery B 2nd Battalion 84th Artillery Fifth in the United States Army as a SGT E5. During his service from 1967-1970, Orlando was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. After his service in the Army, Orlando returned to Denver and graduated from the Community College of Denver in December of 1978, earning his Associates Degree. Orlando worked as an Affirmative Action Investigator for the City & County Denver and later retired from the City & County of Denver as a Clerk with the Denver Sheriff Department - Vehicle Impound. Orlando loved doing anything outdoors. This ranged from riding ATVs through the beautiful mountains of Colorado to camping, fishing, hunting and road trips throughout the United States. His favorite hobby was collecting trains and he had quite the collection. And of course, Orlando will always be remembered for his famous fudge. Some of Orlando's most cherished memories were of all the exciting adventures and time spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed reminiscing about the good old days, playing his oldies songs, snacking on fudgsicles and popsicles, but most of all he enjoyed telling stories and sneaking up on the little ones. Orlando was beloved and respected by all who knew him because of his kind nature and willingness to guide and help others. He touched many lives in several ways and he will be greatly missed by all he journeyed through life with here on earth. Orlando will always remain in our hearts and be forever loved. Orlando is survived by his three children: Victor A. Leon, Raquel (Kelly) J. Martinez, Brian L. Martinez and grandchildren: Kyle S. Duran, Kayla B. Martinez and Jaedon C. West, girlfriend: Barbara Cherino. Orlando was the third eldest of seven born children; Vince Casados, Norma Mercer, Mickey Martinez, Glen Martinez, Glenda Martinez and Joey Martinez in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Orlando is preceded in death by his loving parents 'Nick' and Phoebe Martinez, nieces Sheilah Smith, Nicole Molina and nephew Valentin Casados. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Connor McBryde, Dr. Nancy Babson, many other medical teams, nurses and staff with VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System, Rose Medical Center, Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, St. Anthony's Hospital-Lakewood, and Horan McConaty for their service, compassionate care and support throughout Orlando's medical necessities and his passing.
