Parker Bovaird Mitton was born in Winchester, Massachusetts on Nov. 24, 1921 to Harry L. Mitton and Mary L. Bovaird. His parents were originally from Canada but had become U.S. citizens by the time of Parker's birth. Parker served in the Navy during WWII as an Electronics Technician's Mate, Second Class from July 5, 1944 to June 1, 1946. He successfully tested into an elite group that was trained on use and repair of the then new radar systems. Parker married Natalie S. Sutherland on Nov 27, 1946 in Stoneham, Mass. The couple had originally met as students at the U. of New Hampshire in 1939, graduated in 1943, but did not marry until they again met in Boston, Massachusetts after WWII. They both eventually obtained Master's Degrees. Parker, a Chemical Engineer, worked for National Lead Industries, Dutch Boy Paints, as a Research Chemist. Parker was an avid bridge player all his life, voracious reader, hiker, photographer, jazz lover, tennis player, and one of the first to learn about and use computers. In the years after 1946 the couple traveled widely both in the U.S. and foreign countries including China, Thailand, and many countries in Europe and South America. Many of the travels were with the Audubon Society of Venice, Florida. He is survived by his wife, all three daughters; Marilyn Moll of Paonia, CO; Terry M. Terry of Centennial, CO; and Janet Van Glahn of Dumont, NJ; five grandchildren; Laura Coble, Michael Van Glahn, Stephen Moll, Lisa Van Glahn, and Mary Moll; and two great-grandchildren; Job Coble and Peter Coble.
