Patricia Ann Bye

June 23, 1930 — November 26, 2006

Patricia (Pat) Bye died on November 26, 2006 after a lengthy bout with cancer. She was born on June 23, 1930 in Rochester, Minnesota. Her parents were Gena and Harry Nadolski. She had one younger sister, Audrey, who predeceased her. Audrey taught school at Hawthorne Elementary in Rochester, Minnesota for many years. Pat attended public schools in Rochester, Minnesota. After graduation she attended the University of Minnesota. While there, she won tennis and badminton trophies. She met Jim Bye at Freshman Leadership Camp in September 1948. Pat graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1952. On December 27, 1952, Pat married Jim. Pat worked at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard while Jim went to law school. They moved to Denver in 1956 after Jim's graduation. Pat and Jim have two children, David, an English teacher in Berkeley, California, and Anne Rowe, who works with her husband, Frank, in their publishing business in Denver and is involved in many community activities. Anne and Frank have three daughters, Kate 13, Tory 12 and Biz 9. The Rowe girls were the light of Pat's life. Every Sunday they and their parents gathered at Pat and Jim's home to talk, to listen to the girls play the piano, to play cards (especially Biz) and to try to find out about the girls' activities. Pat had many friends, was an excellent bridge player, traveled extensively with family and friends and enjoyed tennis and golf prior to operations on her hips. Her golf career was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the 12th hole at Cherry Hills Country Club. Pat, with her husband, Jim, was involved in many charitable activities, including being an original and continuing Golden Girl at Girls Inc. in Denver and funding college scholarships for students who attended Hawthorne Elementary School in Rochester, Minnesota, where her sister, Audrey, had taught. Pat will be remembered and missed by her family and friends. Memorial Service, Wednesday, 11:00am, Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
