Patricia Joan Dublin

November 24, 1930 — November 27, 2015

Born on November 24, 1930 Patty passed peacefully to the Lord on November 27, 2015 surrounded by her grandsons, sons, and daughter. She has bravely and modestly battled a broken neck, two strokes, partial paralysis, and cancer for twelve years. With every reason not to, Patty loved life, loved parties, and loved being the ""life of the party"". Surrounded by family she has found a ""better party"". May God bless her, keep her, and enjoy her. Patty was born at the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas to Bernard and Nellie Bottorff. Bernard and Nellie were still in school when Patty was born, just after the stock market crash of 1929. With hard times, further schooling was just not possible. Bernard took work as a Meat Cutter in Coldwater, Kansas. When she was 10 years old Patty broke her leg in a serious accident. She would heal, but one leg was always 2"" shorter than the other. She was never able to pursue her love of dancing and years of imbalance would deteriorate her back with a painful daily reminder of that injury. Patty's brother Bill was born in Coldwater, Kansas. Her brother Jim was born in Dodge City after a harrowing ride to the hospital for Nellie from Coldwater. Helping her mother raise Bill and Jim, the family moved to Greensburg, Kansas in 1937. She remembers the ""dust bowl"" as an awesome and terrifying power of the times. In the hot summer sun of 1944, the family moved to Medicine Lodge, Kansas and lived in the rented attic of a small home four blocks off main street and two blocks from the Davis family home. Patty attended high school in Medicine Lodge, met a young basketball and track star named Wayne Davis, played the French horn in the marching band, and graduated salutatorian in 1948. She attended the University of Kansas prior to marrying Wayne Davis in 1951. Her son Bob was born in 1952 and she and Wayne moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her daughter Cheryl was born in 1957 and her son Steve in 1964. Divorced in 1962, Patty became a single, working mother at a time when being a ""career woman"" was not typically accepted. She got her real estate license and sold real estate for 4 years prior to moving to Denver, Colorado in 1966. Patty loved the Colorado seasons. She worked as a marketing manager for Cinderella City and Villa Italia Malls prior to accepting a position with the University of Denver in their Alumni Relations Department in 1968. She completed her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Denver in 1970. Patty married her longtime mentor, friend, and partner, Conrad Dublin in 1970. She mourned his early death in 1979. Patty never remarried. In her position as the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations for the University of Denver Patty traveled the world. She was offered the Director of Alumni Relations position several times, but she could not bring herself to ""miss the party"". She enjoyed the people, their stories, and their lives. Patty retired from the University of Denver in 1992 after 24 years of service. In 1993, she was awarded the title of AMICA UNIVERSITATIS for loyal and dedicated service to the university and in 1994 the University of Denver awarded her the Randolph P. McDonough Award for Service to Alumni. Patty is survived by her children Robert (Janet Forbes) Davis, Cheryl Davis and Stephen (Yumi) Marchionda; grandchildren Travis and Trenton Danna; and brothers Bill and Jim Bottorff. She was preceded in death by her husbands Conrad Dublin and James Marchionda. Visitation Thursday, December 3, 3-7 PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 E County Line Rd, Centennial. Committal Service Friday, December 4, 10:15 AM at Ft Logan National Cemetery, Staging area C. A Memorial Service at St Luke's United Methodist Church, 8817 S Broadway, Highlands Ranch will follow the same day at 2:00 PM.
