Patricia (Beatty) Halpine, aged 82, passed away March 15, 2025 supported in her transition by her family, close friends, her caregivers and hospice.
From early on Pat was a person interested in people and the world. This curiosity and interest, paired with her social nature, led her to a wide variety of people, relationships and experiences. She was keen to explore, question and learn about a myriad of topics. She was very well read and could converse on almost any area of interest. She was also deeply spiritual and her curiosity, questioning and desire for deep learning spilled over into her religious life as well.
Pat met her future husband, Russell, on a blind date. From that day forward they shared a very close bond which endured throughout their 62 years of marriage. They experienced a rich and full life together. As age and illness took their toll, they still remained at each other’s side as a united couple. He sat by her bedside daily providing companionship and helping to support her when she was no longer mobile. She then continued to support him through his passing, holding his hand in comfort despite her own physical limitations. They shared a bond that surely continues to endure as they embark upon their new journey together.
Pat shared her passion for exploring and learning with her four children by always providing a wide range of interesting opportunities and experiences as well as stimulating conversations. She continued this tradition with her grandchildren who she loved deeply. She was also blessed with a great- grandchild.
Pat was interested in different cultures and women’s equality from an early age. As a young woman she attended an international women’s conference and made friendships which endured many years. From then forward she sought out cultural events and experiences. She made friends from many different backgrounds. She opened her family home to people from different countries as a transition experience while they awaited more permanent housing. The whole family benefited from this hospitality through new experiences, foods, cultures and relationships. Pat brought her children to different cultural events, lectures and movies which stimulated an awareness about the world and others. As her children grew, she channeled her interests into a Communications degree which she received from the University of Colorado Denver in 1985.
Pat had a sense of adventure which she also shared with her family. She instigated many family trips and looked for ways to make them interesting learning experiences. She loved traveling and her suitcase was always close at hand.
Pat was very creative and also had a great sense of humor. She involved her family in many “Fun Family Projects”. She was quick with a comeback, a witty joke, or unexpected prank. She passed her sense of humor on to the younger generations.
Pat was an independent thinker. She enjoyed exploring topics from many angles and probing them on a deeper level. This included her spiritual life. Pat and her husband enjoyed many long, stimulating conversations regarding religion and pushed each other into deeper thinking. Pat enjoyed hearing other people’s opinions and learning from them. She visited a variety of churches to expand her knowledge. She was an early advocate for women’s equality in the church. She studied religion formally and informally and shared her knowledge as a religious educator and as a layperson. She was ever questioning and learning and enjoyed pondering life’s mysteries. Pat and her husband were actively involved in their church communities and involved in many different prayer groups. She enjoyed organizing unique and interesting religious education experiences within her religious communities. A prayer group always special in her heart was Ruah. The discussions and friendships fostered there were cherished.
Pat leaves an enduring legacy of sharing, education and relationships and remains always in our hearts.
A memorial to be held in honor of Pat and her husband Russell is to be announced.
