Patricia Jane Nelson

February 13, 1926 — January 21, 2004

Patricia Jane Nelson of Cherry Hills Village, CO passed away on January 21, 2004 after a long illness. She was 77 years old. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 13, 1926 at Holly Cross Hospital where her father Everett S. Pomeroy M.D. was Chief of Staff and her mother Isabell Kearl Pomeroy was a nurse. She attended Roland Hall School for Girls from pre-kindergarten through her senior year of high school graduating in 1943. She received a scholarship to Mills College, receiving her B.A. in English Literature in 1947. She married the love of her life, Theron Jeremy (Jerry) Nelson on June 16, 1949 in St. Mark's Cathedral in Salt Lake City. They moved to Denver in 1951 where their two children, Penelope Jane (Penny) and Theron Jeffrey (Terry) were born. She is survived by her husband and children. Patricia Jane's past titles include: Chair of the Women's Library Association of the University of Denver, President of Club Sévigné (French Cultural Club), President of Friends of Nursing, and a Representative to the Cultural Affair Committee of Cherry Hills Village, Englewood and Sheridan. She was a 50-year member of the Denver Museum of Art, where she was a docent and Co-Treasurer of the Douglas Society and Alianza. She volunteered at the Museum of Natural History and The Childrens Hospital. She was an active member of the Assistance League, past President of the Mills College Denver Alumni Group, and past Board member of the English Speaking Union. Active in St. John's Cathedral, she co-captained Usher Team 4 for 25 years, was a lay reader and oblation bearer. When St. Gabrielle's Episcopal Church was opened, she was in charge of the Alter Guild while her husband served as charter Treasurer. She was a member of Chapter EO of P.E.O. Memorial Service, Monday 11:00 am, St. John's Cathedral, 1313 Clarkson St. Committal to follow, All Souls Walk at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the Women's Library Association of the University Denver & Friends of Penrose Library, 2150 E. Evans Ave., Denver 80208.
