He soon was accepted and attended Officers Candidate School and served 27 years in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Major in May of 1978 and was awarded the Bronze Star and Commendation medals completing three tours as a commander overseas during the Vietnam War. The last years of his life were spent back in Denver enjoying visits from his grand-children and full-time retirement. Paul, an avid and die-hard Bronco fan, has passed his season tickets dating from 1969 to his children and grand-children.
