Paul Benjamin Anderson

June 6, 1946 — April 15, 2013

Paul Benjamin Anderson died on April 15, 2013, at the age of 66. Born and raised in Minnesota, Paul moved to Colorado in 1976. He retired from Littleton Public Schools in 2006 after a long career as a high school mathematics teacher and coach. His coaching career spanned nearly four decades and ranged from head football coach at Englewood H.S. and Littleton H.S. to head golf coach at Arapahoe H.S., which he continued through 2012. He was also a Division I college basketball official in the 1990s. Paul had a love for great challenges in the great outdoors. In 1999, he reached the summit of Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, the world's tallest peak outside of the Himalayas at nearly 23, 000 feet above sea level. He climbed nearly all of Colorado's 14, 000-foot mountains, and many more around the country and world. He was also an avid cyclist, riding 1, 300 miles down the U.S. west coast in two weeks during the summer of 2012. His battle with cancer brought an early end to a life filled with adventure. Paul is survived by his wife, Cathy, his three adult children, Luke (Kelly), Drew (Bethany), and Kelsey (Dan) McCarthy, and his grandchildren Henry and Miriam. The public is welcome to join the family at two events this week to honor Paul's life. There will be an open house reception with the family on Thursday, April 18 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (one block west of South Holly Street), Centennial, CO 80122. The memorial service will take place on Friday, April 19 at 1:00pm at Greenwood Community Church, 5600 East Belleview Avenue, Greenwood Village, CO 80111. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations in Paul's name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or at www.pancan.org.
