Paul Matthew Barbour, 78, passed away May 1, 2012, in Aurora, Colorado, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 25, 1933 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, to Matthew and Caroline Burgents Barbour.

Paul served in the US Army and was discharged in 1955. During his service, he was instructed in photography which was a lifelong interest for him. He then started his college education while working full time in the insurance business and helping to raise his family.

Ten years, four universities and three cities later, he graduated from Syracuse University. After being tranferred to Denver, he was active in the insurance industry and served as President of the Colorado Agents Association and President of the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters Association. He also earned several professional designations, including CPCU, ARM, and AIA.

Paul joined the Lions Clubs in 1979 and was an active member of the Denver Lions Club. He was dedicated to the service ideals of Lions Clubs and found great satisfaction in being part of it. He was club President in 1997, District 6C Governor in 2001 and Council Chair in 2001. During his years of service, he served as the State Leadership Chair and organized several annual Leadership Institutes. He was a staunch supporter of the efforts to build the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute and served as president of its’ Foundation for the past eight years.

Paul loved the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed hunting in Colorado and fishing in Canada, forming many long and good friendships through his annual trips.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Victoria Willson, of Aurora, CO; four sons, David Barbour, Thornton, CO; Peter (Susan) Barbour, Highlands Ranch, CO; Kenneth (Cindy) Barbour, Gunnison, CO; Philip (Clella Newcomb) Barbour, Littleton, CO.; eleven grandchildren, Aaron, Heather, Chris, Nicole, Nicholas, Jenny, Corrie, Tyler, Victoria, Jake and Aubrey; one great-grandson, Noah; and his sister, Ann (Jack) Parks, of Jupiter, Florida.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm, on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Denver, Colorado 80014. A reception will be held immediately following the service.

Burial will be held at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver, Colorado.
