Beloved father and grandfather, âColonel Peteâ passed away peacefully after a full life of nearly 94 years; still independent, driving and winning at family card games.
Pete joined the US Marine Corps in 1943, actively serving in WWII and during the Korean War. The Marines were a large part of his life and he retired as Lt Colonel from the Marine Corps Reserves after 20 years.
He was a graduate of the University of Denver with a BSc. Finance and an MBA. During his 35 years in accounting and information technology with Public Service Company of CO (now Xcel Energy), he was instrumental in the firm's transformation from ledger books into the digital age.
Growing up on a farm, Pete was always drawn to the outdoors: fishing, hiking, camping, cookouts and driving trips around the US. In later years, he was content to simply enjoy nature from his deck. He and Rose were active in their Church and in bridge groups, and with their many friends, both long-time and new.
Family was the most cherished part of their life, and Pete and his late wife, Rose, created and nurtured a loving family: daughter, Rhonda Baker (Barnaby, deceased), sons Michael (Victoria) and James (Tawnya), and six grandchildren, Nathan, Thomas (Andrea), Rebecca Holligan (Ryan), Austin (Courtney), Taylor and Joseph. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Thomas (Patricia) Wallace of Minnesota, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass and reception will be held on Monday, Dec. 10th at 11am at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80227. Interment will be private at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
