Paul O Gilmore, age 92, passed away on January 4, 2020 at St. Andrews Village in Aurora, Colorado.
Paul was born on May 26, 1927 in Denver, Colorado. He spent his early childhood in Victor, Colorado and after his father's death his family moved back to Denver. From 1944 through early 1947 he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and the U.S. Navy. In 1950 he joined the Denver Fire Department where he served for 30 years, achieving the rank of Captain before retiring on disability. After retirement he served as Bailiff for the Aurora City Courts. Paul also volunteered with several organizations including, but not limited to, The Colorado Civil Air Patrol where he attained the rank of Major and the Wings Over the Rockies Air Museum.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Katherine; sons Daniel (Sheryl), Dennis (Kathleen); daughters Judith (Mike), Janice (David); stepdaughters Elizabeth (Tom), Barbara, Sharon (Randy). He was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Paul was preceded in death by Beverly, his wife of 50 years; his parents, Paul and Marguerite; his sister, Jeanne; and his infant son, Gary.
Services will be held at the Horan & McConaty Mortuary, located at 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014.
The Memorial Service will be held on January 24, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception to be held at the Heartlight Center, located next to the Mortuary, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Interment will be at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery (Maps will be provided) at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Colorado Civil Air Patrol (Mile High Cadet Squadron, Colorado Wing. Buckley AFB, Aurora, CO 80011) It was through Paul's affiliation with the C.A.P. during World War II that earned him the Congressional Gold Medal.
