Peggy Ann Sokol

July 24, 1951 — July 9, 2015

Peggy Ann Sokol, 63, of Montrose, passed away at the University of Colorado Hospital on July 9, 2015 after a brief illness. Peggy was the second of three children of Roy Franklin Barlow and Pauline Helen (Lewis) Barlow. She was born at Denver General Hospital on July 24, 1951, grew up in the Denver area and graduated from Englewood High School in 1969. She married Patrick Lewis Uncapher in October 1971 and to this union were born two children, Erin Lynn and Kyle Irwin. In June 1982 she married Mark Dean Sokol. They lived in Denver and Aurora before settling in Littleton where they resided until June 2015 when they moved to Montrose. They were building a new home where they planned to enjoy their retirement. During the course of her career, Peggy worked as an Accounting Clerk for several business firms in the Denver area. While she worked the largest portions of her career in the hospitality and homebuilding industries, she derived the greatest amount of satisfaction during the last few years of her career when she worked for Catholic Health Initiatives. Because her family moved frequently when she was a child, she was often the ""new kid"" in school. As a result, she always went out of her way to make newcomers in her workplace feel welcome. She and her husband retired in 2014 and had recently moved to Montrose to be close to her favorite cousin and dear friend, Amy Manley. Peggy had a deep interest in music, especially Gospel and Country. She also enjoyed reading, quilting, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor that was cherished by her family and friends and she loved to give and receive hugs. She was baptized as an adult and over the last several decades of her life her faith grew and deepened, she was reconciled with the Lord and she enjoyed a sense of peace in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Donna and her sister Paula Hjelm. Peggy is survived by her husband, Mark; daughter Erin Uncapher (Houston Hurlock) of Denver, CO; son Kyle Uncapher-Antoniou (Jason) of Old Lyme, CT; and grandsons Tristan and Andrew Uncapher of Denver, CO. Also surviving are her brother Ron (Sharon) of Northglenn; aunt Dorothy Rose of Barbourville, KY; numerous cousins and nieces and one nephew. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday July 25, 2015, 11:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Centennial Park, 4630 South Decatur Street in Englewood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Montrose Memorial Hospital or South Metro Fire Rescue Authority. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 E. County Line Rd. Centennial, CO 80122 at 10:30 a.m. Please share your memories of Peggy Ann and condolences with her family by signing the guestbook below.
