Penelope Jo Mahan was born July 10, 1942, in Coronado, California, to parents Edward and Betty Treinen. She died at the age of 81 in Denver, Colorado, on April 30, 2024, with family by her side.
Most of her formative years were spent in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she met and married her first husband, Roger Anderson, just out of high school. They had two sons, Brett and Dirk, while living in Albin, Wyoming. They moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1968, where they raised their two boys. Though their marriage ended in 1976, the two remained friends until Roger's passing in 2014.
Through most of her working years, Penny provided office support in the automotive industry. She stood out in this male-dominated field because of her exceptional ability to provide the answers her customers needed. She later worked for a chiropractor before retiring completely.
Penny married her long-time friend Terry Mahan in 1985. Their love and devotion to one another was evident to all who knew them. Shortly after they married, they built a house together in Littleton, Colorado, where she lived until her passing.
An avid bowler throughout most of her life, Penny regularly watched all kinds of sports on TV, and her rooting for her team could often be heard outside the house. Penny even got kicked out of a high school game once because of her over-the-top enthusiasm. Her favorite was basketball, and she enjoyed attending many Nuggets games.
Penny was a fun person who made friends easily, and she had an abundance of them. She loved hosting parties and get-togethers for friends and family, and she and Terry always had a room ready if one of them needed a place to stay for a while. She was a generous and deeply caring person, putting others' needs before her own.
Penny came to faith and was baptized at Foothills Bible Church in March 2020 by her son Dirk. She loved attending Sunday services and participating in her small group, and she particularly enjoyed worship through music. Her church family was instrumental in the development of her faith.
Penny is survived by her son Dirk (Marci); step-son, Warren; grandchildren Orlando, Millie, Brandy, Sarah, and Devin; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her dear friend of 56 years, Dixie.
Penny is preceded in death by her mother, Betty; father, Edward; husband, Terry; brother, Stew; and son Brett.
Penny's Celebration of Life will be held at Foothills Bible Church, 6100 South Devinney Way, Littleton, CO, Wednesday, May 22, 1:00 pm, with a reception to follow.
