Peter Joseph Donohue (Pete), 92, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, December 21, 2018.
Pete was born to parents Peter J. and Emma R. Donohue in Brooklyn, New York in 1926. He enlisted into the military and served as a tail-gunner at the end of World War II. Early in his military career, he met and married Nancy C. Flowers. Together they raised seven children. In 1964, Pete, by then a pilot, retired from the Air Force as a Major. He then took a job in Colorado with United Airlines as a flight instructor where he remained until retiring in 1986.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Peter J. and Emma R. Donohue; his brother, Alfred F. Donohue; his wife, Nancy C. Donohue; and his children, Daniel D. Donohue and Emily C. Donohue. He is survived by his children, Dottye A. Baker (Paul), Nancy E. Steinbach (Tim), Peter J. Donohue (Keo), Erin E. Donohue (Terry) and Mary A. Curtis (Greg); his sister-in-law, Jennie; his nieces, Pat, Joan and Barbara; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his full career and rich family relationships, Pete enjoyed a variety of activities including; swimming laps (logging well over 7500 miles), singing with the Sound of the Rockies Chorus and various barbershop quartets, and volunteering as a Denver International Airport Ambassador. In recognition of his airport volunteer service, Pete was presented the Channel 7 Everyday Hero Award in December of 2017, at the age of 91. He continued this service with over 9700 hours (more than any other airport ambassador in DIA history) until just prior to his death.
