Peter H. Edmiston

December 7, 1936 — December 8, 2024

Denver

Peter H. Edmiston (“Pete”) passed away on December 8, 2024 at the age of 88 and one day.

Pete was born in Pendleton, Oregon to Everett and Janet Edmiston. He enjoyed an adventuresome boyhood in the small town of Reith, Oregon and later Hermiston, Oregon. He graduated Oregon State University in 1960 with a degree in Civil Engineering.

On May 12, 1962, he married the love of his life, Mary Martha Moore Edmiston (“Marty”). They settled in Denver, Colorado in 1964.

Pete served in the US Army and US Army Reserves from 1960 through 1966, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Although billeted as a crane operator, he mastered the most dangerous of military equipment, the typewriter.

Pete and Marty became season ticket holders to the Denver Broncos in 1967. For 57 years, Pete loyally attended countless games, followed the team, and wore the Orange and Blue.

In 1971, they welcomed their son, Michael S. Edmiston, and started making wine soon after. They discovered a joy of camping, taking family trips in their green RV to Lake Dillon, Marble, Estes Park, and other Rocky Mountain locations. Pete would drive, Marty would navigate, and Mike would nap in the back knowing all was right with the world.

In 1977, along with a partner, Pete and Marty started Lam-Wood, a structural wood supply company. Pete was the last survivor of the company’s early partners, and proud Lam-Wood still serves builders, architects, and contractors across the United States today.

Pete and Marty “discovered” Maui in 1982 and it quickly went from being an occasional vacation spot to a home-away-from-home with old and new friends visiting from around the world.

Pete and Marty retired from Lam-Wood in 2001 and enjoyed long visits to Maui, cheering on the Denver Broncos, making new friends, and worrying their son.

On any sunny Colorado day, Pete enjoyed riding his bike along Denver’s High Line Canal. A Costco run was never out of the question, despite the distance and knowing he would have to balance his purchases on the handlebars for the ride home.

Pete is survived by his wife, Marty; son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Christine; sister-in-law, Lana; his nieces and nephews Darcy, Dirk, Kay, Ladd, and Jason and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Pete’s name to: Step Denver and/or the Highline Canal Conservancy.

In lieu of tears, the family asks you raise your glass and make a toast to Pete, his warm laugh, bright smile, and life well-lived.

Pete will be remembered on December 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Horan McConaty, 1091 S Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80246. The service will also be livestreamed. Aloha wear is recommended.
