Peter Steele Gutrich was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1966, first born son to Thomas Robert Gutrich and Peggy Gallagher Gutrich of Denver. Peggy, Tom and Peter moved to Denver when Peter was an infant. Peggy had attended Loretto Heights College while Tom was at Notre Dame and Denver held much appeal. In Denver, Peter was quickly followed by his brothers Stephen, Mark, Dan, and little sister Nancy. The family lived in Cherry Hills where Pete attended elementary school, West Middle School and Mullen High School. Pete was a terrific athlete who excelled in baseball, which he continued at The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. After graduating from Notre Dame, Peter embarked on an exciting global finance and business career which had him traveling all over the world quite literally. Among other domicile cities, he lived in Mexico City, London, New York, San Francisco, and finally Chapel Hill, NC with offices in New York, China, and Europe. Primarily, Peter was an entrepreneur in the finest sense. He formed companies, raised money, managed money, and built things. Mostly, he built friendships and was always home in Denver for the holidays. Uncle Pete was the favorite uncle of thirteen nieces and nephews. There were eight nieces in a row before, finally, a nephew. Starting in grade school and including his caregivers at the end of his life, Pete had great and devoted friends. He enjoyed being a great, devoted, and dependable friend. His business success seemed based primarily on friendships. Although Pete died somewhat unexpectedly, it was known for twenty two months that his time was short and consequently, family and friends were able to let him know of their love and, especially sibling devotion. His sister and brothers were remarkable in their caring. During that time, Stephen (the silent partner) managed the astonishing caravan of friends who visited and took Peter on trips. Survivors, in addition to Tom and Peggy, are brother Stephen, his wife Lynne, and their four daughters Kaitlin, Alyssa, Sarah, and Charlotte; brother Mark, his wife Eileen, and three daughters Morgan, Hannah, Amanda, and son Matthew; brother Dan, his wife Becky, and their daughter Isabel and son Henry; and sister Nancy Gutrich Weissert, her husband Jason, and Addison, Thomas, and Maggie. We all thank Peter for his strength and grace, his character and courage, his relentless good humor, and his final guidance. Mostly, his capacity to live and love us all so much.
