Peter Townsend Hills was born on June 18th, 1938 in Redlands, California. The son of a military family he traveled all over the USA, spending his childhood on various military bases. His father Col. J Townsend Hills was part of the WWII efforts and was often not home during his air force career. While attending high school at Bethesda Chevy Chase in Maryland, he became involved with the Amateur Radio Club, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. After attending the University of Maryland, Peter moved to Colorado and worked for Martin Marietta from 1960 to 1965. In 1965 he returned to the East Coast and lived in North Carolina - eventually landing back in Washington D.C. to help care for his family until 1971. Motivated by John Denver's "" Rocky Mountain High"", he returned to Colorado where he would remain for 47 more years. Peter met Lelda (Teddy )here, in this very room singing in the Saint Thomas choir. They married in 1973.
Peter went into business as a Headhunter and started his own company called Chrysler Consultants which he operated for years, until returning to and retiring from Lockheed Martin as a self-made logistics engineer in 2001. Peter was a family man who enjoyed hunting, camping, bridge nights with friends, amateur radio, grilling and categorizing. ""A place for everything, everything in its place"". Peter was selfless and reminds us all to never feel sorry for ourselves - but to handle adversity with strength and determination. It is not how you fall, but how you get back up!
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lelda ( Teddy ) Dickey Hills , his children, Scott Townsend Hills and Julia ( Jill ) Hills Mckenzie, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sibling, Susan ( Hills ) Coursey of Philadelphia, PA, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ellen Klos and Edith ( Dee Dee ) Sargent ( Hills ) Woods .
The family is grateful for the support of Denver Hospice and St. Thomas. The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to the March of Dimes and St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
